Requesting critique on roller derby video
Sunday was the second bout of the season for the Alamo City Rollergirls, and I produced this video recapping the bout. Any critique you can give would be much appreciated.

Hi Angela,
Good Job! here are my suggestions:
1. Try to include more tight shots. One I was looking for was a close-up of the skates going by. Having more would help prevent some of the jump cuts I was seeing.
2. It seems that a lot of your shots are at eye level. I like to get the camera on the ground to change out the perspective. I tell my students in their Intro to Photojournalism class to "get on your knees or climb a tree"--meaning try a high and low perspective. This will break up the visual redundancy of the skaters going around and around and around...
3. Watch your audio transitions. You want smooth audio transitions between all clips. Even put a audio transition on the opening clip to ease the viewer into the scene.
4. Pacing. This story needs to pick up the pace. It is a fast action sport. The editing should reflect that. Try some fast sequences with video clips that are very short. Rock me visually. Don't give me a second to be bored.
Nice job on the narration. You have a pleasing voice to listen to.

Thanks for this great critique! Actually, it's not my voice, it's Meena Thiruvengadam, and Express-News business reporter. I love her voice and I'll probably get her help for all the derby voiceovers from now on.
I'll definitely take your advice about audio transitions and shooting tight shots to use as transitions. I'm becoming more comfortable taking the camera off the action to get crowd reactions and player reactions. This time, I set myself up on tall sticks and a step stool to shoot the game, but I left it and walked around occasionally to get other shots.
I really mean for these derby videos to be like sports coverage. One reason we're covering it at all is because it's an up-and-coming sport, but no one else is covering it. So the derby players and fans (who are very loyal) have no where to get coverage like this except us.
This video is meant to show the sport in action, because that's what they want to see. I'm afraid if I edit lots of fast video clips, it'll be nice and featurey, but you won't really be able to follow the action.
Thanks again for your suggestions!
